Hey everyone. It’s been a while since my last post. And I have my reasons. Last week I was away from my computer because I was vacationing with my family at our house in Ocean City, Maryland. I spent the week working on my tan, chilling in a nice warm swimming pool, and actually going into the ocean for once. There are lots of broken seashell bits in the sand as you enter the water and it just really annoys me and kind of hurts my feet a little (I have nice and delicate feet, dammit).
The week before that I went to volunteer at the Philadelphia Union match against Everton and ended up hospitalized with heat exhaustion, which is a pretty crappy experience that I don’t recommend for anyone. I had to stay inside for a few days during the recovery process, but I wasn’t really in the mood for blogging. It made me miss out on the Union’s match against Real Madrid, which sucks because I really wanted to go to that one. But enough about my, um, awesome life. This is a Picks of the Week post, and this week’s picks are all brought to you by the letter P.
And it’s not even like I specifically chose this letter for a POTW post. When I was putting together this little list, I noticed that the songs on it were all by bands whose names began with the letter P. So I figured I might as well make that the theme. But first, check out a couple new tunes from Radiohead and Mastodon.
The Picks of the Week are coming your way after the jump, as always.
That’s right, ladies and gentlemen. In the words of that one guy from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, I’m not dead yet. I feel fine. I think I’ll go for a walk! I feel happy, I feel happy — *gets knocked out with a stick*
So where have I been for, like, all of 2010? Looking for jobs, mostly (PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SOMEBODY HIRE ME, I PROMISE I’LL BE GOOD AND I WILL LOVE YOU FOREVER), and also writing and recording my own songs just for fun. I might even share them on the Internet someday after I get over my crippling lack of self-confidence! Hooray for me!
Anyway, the 2011 Grammy nominees were announced recently and this gave me inspiration to make my long-awaited, much-anticipated (by absolutely nobody) return to the blogosphere. Of course, this isn’t a complete Grammy preview — I mean, there are 109 different categories and I’d have to be crazy to cover them all. This isn’t even a complete preview of all the awards people actually care about, just the ones I was able to write about in an entertaining fashion.
The Listen Up! 2011 Grammy Awards That You Care About And That I Was Also Able To Make Jokes About Preview continues after the jump!
Not that this means I can’t be satisfied with the music I have, of course.
So, since it’s been another lengthy hiatus from the ol’ blogosphere for yours truly, I figured I’d ease myself back into the fold with another Colin’s Collection post. Besides, there’s a big snowstorm coating my neighborhood with icy white powder and blocking off the doors with little walls of ice. And since shoveling efforts will prove to be quite futile until the storm stops, I’ve got nothing to do at the moment.
(Ah, the joys of shoveling snow. Remember when you were a kid and the snow used to be a lot of fun because you’d get the day off from school and you could go sledding with your friends? Yeah, when you grow up and you have to start shoveling it and driving in it, the snow gets a lot less fun. Growing up sucks, kids.)
But anyway, rather than making this all about the big snowstorm that’s been pounding the Northeast US all day, let’s get back to the point of this post: recent additions to my music collection! You can find them after the jump.
Hi everybody! Now that the World Series matchup has been set, it’s time for everyone to start making predictions and talking some smack, I figured I would throw my name into the hat. Yes, I know this is supposed to be a music blog. But since it’s my blog, I figured I’d have a little fun with this — especially since the Phillies are back in the Fall Classic.
I guarantee you’re not going to get a more thoughtful and in-depth analysis of this year’s Major League Baseball championship series than you’re going to get right here. The fun begins after the jump…
Hey everyone! I’m finally back after yet another lengthy hiatus from the blogosphere. I just got back home last night from a nine-day vacation with my family in Ocean City, MD (we have a house down there). The weather was consistently pleasant, despite the meteorologists’ insistence to the contrary for a few days; the pool was always a bit chilly at first but would soon become comfortable; there was a nice breeze at the beach; the new Harry Potter movie was pretty solid; my dad celebrated his birthday; the Phillies have been kicking ass for the last few weeks (including tonight’s 10-1 demolition of the Cubs) and are the favorites to trade for kickass pitcher Roy Halladay; Married With Children reruns were on a lot in the morning and are still hilarious; I finally got to read Thank You For Smoking; and all in all it was a pretty good week.
So now that I’m back in the Keystone State, I bring you the playlist for my penultimate show of the 2008-09 school year on May 8, 2009. The playlist and more after the jump!
Hey everyone! It’s been kind of a busy week for my family, but I’m back. Congratulations to my sister Lauren on graduating from high school, and happy 20th birthday to my other sister Kerry.
In my last post I had some ideas for things I can post here that don’t involve top 5 lists or making fun of stupid crap since I’ve almost got all of my playlists posted here. This is one of those ideas — just a few songs I’ve had stuck in my head lately that I’d like to tell you all about. And just to force you all to increase the hit count for this post, I’m going to list them all after the jump.
What can I say? I’m evil like that. MUAH-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!!!!!
(originally featured on the Oct. 17, 2008 show)
It’s funny how sometimes the planets align in just the right position for something apparently important to happen. When I first aired this list back in October, I was hours away from a trip to Penn State to watch the Nittany Lions take on Michigan, Maryland was finally coming home to Byrd Stadium for a matchup against Wake Forest, and my Phillies were about to begin the National League Championship Series against the Dodgers. Penn State beat the crap out of Michigan (the Wolverines really sucked this year, though), Maryland shut out Wake Forest, and as for the Fightin’ Phils… well, I’ll let Chase Utley handle this one for me.
Yeah, I’m still kind of on a high from the World Series. Hey, you would be too if you’d never ever seen one of your teams win anything ever… and then they won something.
Anyway, as I post this we are less than one week away from America’s favorite unofficial holiday — Super Bowl Sunday. If you’ve come here looking for insightful analysis on who I think will win the big one… well, you’ve come to the wrong place. Plus, I’m still a little bummed that the Eagles blew it in the NFC Championship Game again. But at least I’ve still got the Phillies.
In the spirit of the unofficial holiday season, I present to you my Top 5 Songs That Get Me Excited For The Big Game. Gentlemen, start your headbanging…
